1966 Jaguar S-Type
Lot Number:
Estimate: £7,000 - 9,000
- V5 To be applied for
- MoT Exempt
- Chassis number: ALB58758
This S‑Type 4.2‑litre was assembled in South Africa from CKD parts packages sent from the UK in 1966. Purchased by a lady doctor in 1977, the car returned to the UK with her in 1980, hence the 'W' registration.
It spent 30 years unused and in storage before recent recommissioning which included the removal of the original 3.8‑litre engine in favour of a 4.2‑litre one, rebuilt carburettors, replacement radiator, new clutch and water hoses. Other works included replacement power‑steering system, front suspension subframe removed, all bushes cleaned and replaced, and new balljoint gaiters and bearings. The brake calipers were overhauled and new discs and pads fitted. The rear suspension subframe was removed, universal joints checked or replaced, and new bearings, brake discs, pads and rubber mounts installed. New splined hubs were fitted all round. The car has recently has benefited from a new clutch and the car also has a stainless steel exhaust and chrome wires. £4500 has been spent since 2019. The odometer shows 82,391 miles.
The history folder includes an old style V5, so a new one will need to be applied for. Since coming to the UK, the car has had three keepers overall, with the last since 1985. There's a single MoT certificate from 1985 (when the mileage was 62,655 miles), a large amount of bills dating from the 1980s, as well as 2021 and 2022 bills from Rugby Classic Motor Garages totalling over £4000.
